well on my 1998 eclipse the inner cv axle boots / both sides /are torn flush all the way around.
my rack and pinion boots are torn as well, however i noticed the boots are help on with zip ties that same that are offered in a repair boot kit.
But the boots are torn in the center.
is it because my car is lowered? or age...
any help ?

As soon as I slammed my cressida all the boots on my car ripped real axel boots and rack and pinion boots shock blew ect... Its more or less the age. I have since put a new rack and boots on my car and they haven't ripped or torn yet and it's been a year

i would have guess that was the problem, the rubber is older and harder and broke down fast with a new lower suspension.
i guess ima see what i can do to fix it..
i dont wanna buy a new rack if i can just buy boot repair kits
and just buy cv axles with lifetime warranty

if were you i would just but new cv axles since you really dont wanna repair the boot after driving on it for such a long time. should only take a weekend to fix depend on how hard you work ojn it and how many beers you can consume in an hour.

thanks alot,
im just going to go buy new cv's with a lifetime warranty, and i can swap them out over and over.
being there were the oem boots, the rubber was hard, and te new ones should be ok for a long while, plus i will put some tire wet or something on the boots to keep them soft and not crack open again
110 for new cv;s
and 35 for 2 new boots

oh man dont worry its really simple.
Steps:
jack car up
unbolt the wheels
drain tranny fluid
unbolt the axle nut
if on drivers side should just be a straight pull
on passenger side you have to unbolt the halfshaft first then pull
replace
