I just picked up a Canon 600D the other week and I want to take good pictures of mine and my friends cars, but I don't know what type of filters or lens to get. I like doing night shots and doing video if that helps.

Ehhhh I'm not big fan of Ken Rockwell. He's fine for tips but some of the things he says are extremely biased and ridiculous.

The best thing to do is go on a photo sharing site like Flickr and find photos you like. After you find some, check the photo description and the EXIF to see what lens and settings they used. Yes, the lenses used might exceed your budget but there are usually always cheaper alternatives and techniques to get the effect you want.
