Hello Everyone!

My name is John and after a few months of checking out this board I decided to join. While I am not new to modifying cars, I am new to the stance "scene". I do believe that a proper stance really sets a car off and it makes it stand out in a really good way. With this in mind, I have embarked on my project for the summer...getting the proper stance for my car! Hopefully your insight will guide me in the right direction.

I currently drive an '09 MS3 (Crystal White Pearl). The current suspension consists Cobb Sport springs. The drop on the Cobb's are a conservative 1" all around and function well for my driving style and kid/drum hauling. After consulting with the A+ staff at Wheel Dude, I have pre-ordered my new wheels...Rota Grids in Hyperblack. Measurements are 18 x 8.5 (+44) (5 x 114.3). From speaking with the staff, this wheel (paired with a "slightly stretched" 225/40/18 tire) will yield a nice flush look with no bodywork involved. Not too aggressive, but not too weak either. They mentioned that with a little fender work, and some negative camber, I can fit an 18 x 9 pretty easily. I have never rolled/pulled fenders before and the thought of attempting that kinda intimidates me so I chose to stick with the 18 x 8.5.

What does everyone think so far? 18 x 8.5 or 18 x 9? I know that a lot of members love to get stance super dialed in but I am concerned about the body work, rough roads, and what I carry in my hatch at any given moment. Plus will an 18 x 9 wheel look 4x4ish on a conservative drop? The wheels have not arrived yet so I can still change my wheel size if need be. Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

Judging from that pic above, you'd be fine with 18 x 9. Especially since you only have a 1" drop all around. I think you'll be ok.

Another thing to try is that if you or the shop or a friend has a wheel of similar size, you can toss that one to get an idea. That'd probably be your best bet.

18x9 for sure, and you can drop it more that 1" without having problems...
