Haha, so misleading. But I was wondering if there is a way to smoothen this out while staying on a budget? I just got this lip for my car and want to smooth it out but dunno where to start?

Yeah, plastic..
I'd sand it with rough sand paper then extra fine. And maybe a thin layer of fiberglass resin. $20 tops at wall-mart. Helps if you have a sander too. I use a black and decker mouse. But hand sanding gives you better feel when checking for evenness.

Hmm, anything specific I should look for? Specific brand of paper or raisin?
Raisin? I like Sunmaid raisins from Cali :lol:Originally Posted by Elvis
Just kidding. As far as sand paper goes anything will work. Just use rough grit first to get rid of the big gashes and 1000 grit or higher to smooth it out. As far as resin, I use BONDO POLYESTER FIBERGLASS RESIN. But all brands work fine. Wal-Mart or any auto parts store usually carries them.
You're going to want to mix the resin with hardener and just apply over the lip like if you were spreading icing on a cake.
then just repeat the sanding process from the lip. Start with low grit to get rid of major clumps of resin. One it feels smooth sand with a extra fine grit paper to get it smooth.
If you're primming or painting it don't so fine with grit until after you prime it. Once primmed it will show imperfections. Then sand again with extra fine grit. I like to wet sand primmer but you don't have to. Prime again after sanding. Paint, sand, paint, sand, clear, sand, clear, wet sand, buff...
The resin usually has directions too. Probably better then mine, but at least you have some kind of idea now. :eusa-think:
Oh and if you don't want to paint it I would suggest at least doing a black primmer.

Sweet dude. Thanks so much! I neeed to get on this!![]()
Had fun with the project. It takes lots of patients but well worth it when u finish.
Absolutely...don't rush at all. Especially the sanding. The sanding will make or break the project. Its not hard to but a rushed sand Job is the worst looking thing you can do. Take your time and make sure it's all smooth. It's a great feeling when you're all done.
