Perfection can be tough to define and even more difficult to accomplish. Regardless, many enthusiasts find themselves on the journey to achieving perfection with their projects. In spite of the most condemning commentary the internet can offer we are often our own toughest critics. Luckily, the endless nature inherent to the modification of vehicles offers the opportunity for continuous improvement in the pursuit of our own perfection.

Subaru has been on its own quest towards perfection. Fans of the Impreza WRX often joke at the odd nature of its first-you-hate-it-but-later-love-it evolution of the model. Although opinions on styling vary it is tough to argue against the fact that the chassis has grown exponentially more rigid, the features refined, and the turbo boxer-4 more powerful with each revision. The 2008 model year marked the dawn of the 5-door hatch WRX STi as overseas affection for the hatchback crept its way into the global market, notably in the states. Though I personally prefer the previous ’06-’07 styling I quickly grew to enjoy the hatch models for their utility and increased refinement over previous models after driving one.

Danny Rosoilo, the owner of this decadently red WRX STi, grew fond of the body style following annual trips to his native Portugal where the culture is enamored with hatch-style vehicles. After purchasing the car new in 2009 Danny and his best friend Pedro set out on a quest for Subaru perfection inside and out.

Pedro helped Danny search high and low for the right paint finish, ultimately deciding upon the custom Barcelona Red that envelops the wide haunches of the Varis-enhanced Subaru. Varis also supplied the rear wing. Avid Subaru and rally enthusiasts will notice the Spec-C scoop perched atop the roof. The deep red hue accentuates the aggressive aero and contrasts well against a sea of blue Subarus.

Although the STi comes adequately-equipped with a powerful 2.5L turbocharged boxer-4 it simply wasn’t enough for Rosoilo. A host of products from Subaru-specialists Perrin, including a front-mount intercooler and a rotated-mount GT35R turbocharger, augment the power available from Danny’s STi. Boost pressures are regulated externally via a TiAL wastegate, TiAL also provided the blow-off valve. Danny and Pedro have done a great job of improving the aesthetics of the engine bay while maintaining the characteristically utilitarian feel of a Subaru.

Massive 19×12” +15 Forgeline GA-3s and 295-treadwidth Hankook tires are nestled perfectly within the Varis overfenders thanks to an air suspension provided by AirLift. Management for the suspension is handled by AccuAir. A host of components from GT Spec and Megan Racing ensure necessary adjustments can be made while Kartboy endlinks and Whiteline swaybars increase the Subaru’s roll stiffness.

The most recent upgrades to Danny’s STi are found inside. Within the AutoPower rollcage driver and passenger are seated comfortably in Takata seats and, of course, secured by Takata harnesses. A custom back seat was built in order to accommodate the requisite air tank for the suspension while Prova accessories enhance the driving experience. Finally, the rest of the interior has been exquisitely covered in Alcantara by Overland Designs.

Danny has certainly accomplished a lot in the past 5 years and he tells us the journey is not over. What’s next for the STi? Perfection. Instead of moving on to another platform or changing the car entirely, Rosoilo will continue his focus on perfecting his build. It seems he is already off to a pretty great start
