Rep System Questions?

im not new to the rep system on forum. actually most forums im on have some sort of rep system. for those who arent familiar with the rep system it is that little free box under your name. and it will grow or decrese over time depending on how people like your dislike you post. but i was just wondering how this works:

- how many reps do you get per day?
- im assuming the rep doesnt do anything but changes colors (i.e the more rep you have the brighter the colors?)
-and i thinks its a alright idea until somebody turns red and gets real mad.
